After I posted this week’s video about how being gay isn’t all about sex, I got a lot of great comments, one of them from someone who said, simply, “Apparently you have never been to a pride parade.”
Which is a fair point to raise. If being gay isn’t about sex, why do we so frequently associate sexual images with Pride events?
Actually, this is something I wrote about way back in 2013, in two back-to-back blog posts. These days, the term LGBTQ has become more common than LGBT, but other than that, I think pretty much everything in these posts holds up. Here they are:
- First: “If being gay isn’t about sex, why are pride parades so sexual?”
- And then: Gay pride festivals: a real-life follow-up.
And, in case you missed it, this week’s video.
