My new Bible study video series launched Monday, January 12, 2026!
In this series, we’re studying our way through the entire New Testament in one year, one chapter a day, five days a week.
It will take me a bit more than a year to make and upload all the videos, but if you start watching now, one video a day, Monday through Friday, it should take you exactly one year to watch them.
Want to jump directly to the first day of study? Check out the video below. Each video links to the next in the series. Or scroll down for some frequently asked questions; I’ll continue to update this page over time.
Q: What Bible translation are you using?
A: I’m reading from the Berean Standard Bible, because it uses modern English and is public domain. There are other translations I use in my personal study, but they’re copyrighted, so I can’t read them in their entirety on YouTube. I may sometimes reference them in future videos, though.
Q: Why are you starting in Mark? Isn’t Matthew first?
A: Many popular Bible-reading plans go “out of order” to make it easier to get into the habit, to follow themes in Scripture, and to spread out the gospel accounts throughout the year. (The traditional Bible order is designed to make things easier to find in your Bible, but it’s not the order things were written in anyway, so any order is “out of order” in some sense.)
After consulting a number of different Bible plans, I decided to start with Mark, which has short, easy-to-read chapters, making it easier for first-time readers. But don’t worry, we’ll get to all the New Testament books during the study!
Q: If I’m starting the study late, should I start from the beginning or try to keep up with your most recent videos?
A: I suggest starting from the beginning. I’ll continue reading and responding to your comments no matter when you post them, and I’ll often reference previous videos, assuming viewers have been watching in order.
Besides, really, there’s no “starting late.” The whole point of posting on YouTube like this is for people to be able to start whenever they want!
Q: When do new videos post? Why isn’t there always a new video every weekday?
A: The plan for this series is that, once it’s done, you should be able to watch five videos a week and get through the whole New Testament in a year. I’ve learned, though, that it’s not always possible for me to make five videos a week. I try my best to do five videos most weeks, but sometimes I’m not able to do a video every day, and there are occasional periods when I’m not able to upload anything at all, due to various life circumstances.
My official upload schedule is “They come out when they come out.” But most weekdays there will be a new video, and by this point, I’ve built up enough of a buffer that if you start now, you should be able to watch all of them in a year.
Q: In one of your videos, you didn’t address something important (or interesting or confusing) from that day’s chapter. How come?
A: Each day, I try to pick one thing to focus on from the chapter. Sometimes, that’s difficult, because I really want to talk about so many things, but I don’t want the videos to be too long.
In some cases, I might choose not to talk about a particular thing because I know I’ll be addressing a similar point in a different video/passage. Other times, I may agree something is worth discussing but might not feel like I personally have anything interesting or helpful to say about it at the moment. (There are passages that stump me, too!) But often, it’s just a matter of being most drawn to a different part of the passage and wanting to talk about that instead.
Q: I disagree with your interpretation of a passage, or I know you got something wrong about it. Will you be mad if I say so?
A: Of course not. I’m happy to hear about it! One of the joys of this kind of study is learning from each other. I love hearing other interpretations, and while I can’t honestly say I “love” learning that I’ve made a mistake, I do love learning overall, and that means being willing to learn when I’ve goofed! Your gentle corrections are more than welcome.
The only thing I ask is that disagreements in the comments (with me or other commenters) be handled with grace and gentleness, not arguments and debates. Crass, unkind, or hurtful comments will be removed, whether I agree with the commenter’s view or not. We Christians should be able to disagree in a loving way that invites everyone to learn.
Q: Why haven’t I seen any of these videos on your YouTube channel? I’m subscribed…
I have two channels!
@GeekyJustin is my main channel, and includes both faith and secular content.
@YearOfBible is the new channel for this Bible study only.
If you’d like to see both, you have to subscribe to both separately.
